Club Penguin History

Club Penguin is a virtual world where children from all over the world can interact with eachother.

Club Penguin started with a site called Rocketsnail Games. They made all kinds of cool Flash Games! It’s closed now, and we’ll talk about why later.
Believe it or not, Club Penguin was just starting out nearly 10 years ago! The People from Rocketsnail started working out the ideas for it in the year 2000 (it’s 2009 now!). Back then, the person who mainly created the game was nicknamed “rsnail”.
It started out as a game called Experimental Penguins. It was really cool, but only a few rooms. At the time, rsnail was just a newbie at making big flash games like that. He soon visited Flashkit Forums where he got a lot of help and got the game going.
Then, you couldn’t even register for an account! You just Typed in a name and clicked “Go”.

It all started on Aug 15, 2000. They created the game, and the stats rocketed. In Sept, it received more than 25,000 visitors spending an average of 20 minutes each. Ballistic Biscuit was awarded Editor’s Choice by the very popular kids site Bonus.com. It was also featured by the official Cool Site of the Day.
Sometime in December, the game stats went too high and they had to close the game for a while until they got a new server.

In winter 2001, they started making a Top-Secret game soon to be released and put in the game. It was called Snowblasters. Only those subscribed to theit mailing list knew about it, and their website was Snowblasters.com (although it is now gone). It was never released.
You could only be one of the defualt colors: black, blue, green & red.
The Game was only open a few months: then Penguin Chat came along.

Before you read on, I want you to note that Rocketsnail didn’t actually own the game. They made it for New Horizon Interactive.

Club Penguin came along in 2005, around 5 years after the base of the game started.
What most people don’t know is that Sony was going to buy Club Penguin for $450 million. After the price went above $500 million, Sony backed out of the deal. Then Disney came along.
The Walt Disney Company bought Club Penguin in 2005, over a $350 Million deal. In Cash. If the game reaches over 14 Billion Players by the year of 2009 (which it did), then they would recive another payout of $350 million, totaling in over $700 Million dollars in cash.
Club Penguin has changed a lot since then, and my fingers hurt from typing, so I will stop here.
